Overview

RAM was determined to thrust the iconic 1500 into the 21st century by introducing an all-electric model, alongside major competitors in the U.S. electric truck market. The main competition—the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado—got a head start by introducing their full-size EV pickups last year. RAM hopes to close the gap quickly with some jaw-dropping specs. The first RAM 1500 REVs (model year 2025, all with crew cabs and 5’7-inch beds) won’t go on sale until late 2023, but reservations opened for the new EV pickup earlier in the year. In designing the 1500 REV, RAM has been careful not to alienate the beefy pickup’s loyal fan base. The all-electric version of this popular truck is every bit as muscular as its internal combustion (ICE) brother—without the fuel.

Who’s It For?

The 2025 RAM 1500 REV is for greenies who haven’t lost their sense of adventure. It’s also for truck enthusiasts who want to tow, go off-road, and haul mega-stuff without stopping for fuel or being subjected to fluctuating costs. Both kinds of drivers will be impressed with how far EV technology has advanced, not least of all regarding driving range. The 2025 RAM 1500 REV is not your woo-woo aunt’s all-electric vehicle.

What’s New for 2025?

Almost everything since this is the first all-electric model of the RAM 1500. The interior, however, will look quite familiar—and very comfortable—to RAM enthusiasts. Most of the cosmetic tweaking involves exterior styling, with more LED lights in both front and rear, a unique front grille, and an illuminated logo that pulses when the truck is charging—just in case you want to advertise that this is no gas-guzzling behemoth, however large it may be. And large it must be to support that massive battery pack. Its body-on-frame STLA platform is specifically designed for full-size EVs, with a somewhat wider middle section to handle the battery weight more efficiently.

Also new is the high-end Tungsten trim for the RAM 1500 REV. It includes such creature comforts as 24-way power adjustments for the front leather seats.

Real World Performance

As the nimble acceleration figure suggests, big does not mean clumsy. RAM has completely shielded the underbody to improve aerodynamics, reducing the drag coefficient to 0.34. The RAM 1500 REV has kept the air suspension system from the internal combustion models, with the driver able to choose from a range of ride heights—entry/exit, normal, aero, off-road 1, and off-road 2. The lower heights improve the truck’s aerodynamics, a useful option for highway driving. The higher levels make the road less traveled easier to navigate, with an impressive water-fording capability of 24 inches. All RAM 1500 REV models are equipped with all-wheel drive. All have two electric motors, one for each axle.
