Bottom line: buckle up and prepare to experience decades of automotive engineering evolution.
Performance
Dodge offers five engine options for the 2020 Challenger, each using the latest in technology to increase power while maintaining desirable fuel-efficiency. The adventure begins with a 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 engine capable of 305 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque, yet still managing a stellar 30 mpg highway.2
Beyond this, the legendary HEMI® takes over. The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with Fuel Saver Technology can produce up to 375 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. It also uses a built-in computer to deactivate up to four cylinders in the engine when power is not needed, thus saving in fuel costs with up to 25 mpg highway.3 Next, the 392 HEMI V8 can launch the Challenger from 0 to 60 in the low 4-second range with 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque; it can even do a quarter-mile in less than 13 seconds. For a real beast under the hood, consider the monstrosity that is the Supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI SRT Hellcat V8, which can produce as much as 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. If you’re still craving more, the Supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat HEMI Redeye can satisfy that craving with 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque.
Key Features
Performance Pages
The 2020 Challenger features multiple Performance Pages that can be selected from the available 8.4-inch high-definition full-color touchscreen in the dashboard. Drivers can select preset modes or custom modes to fit different driving needs. For example, switch from Normal to Sport Mode to simultaneously reduce shift times, increase steering sensitivity and traction control, as well as activate the available paddle shifters. Or switch from Normal to Comfort mode to revert these settings to make driving easier, like increased power steering for a smoother ride.
Launch Control
The Challenger’s onboard computer can detect and analyze various data points to help achieve the most-efficient launch from a starting line. Activate the available Launch Control from the center touchscreen, and it will analyze external factors like track and temperature conditions to find the ideal RPM for launch and calculate precision grip to minimize wheel slips.
Active Safety Features
As always, the need for speed comes standard with a respect for safety, and Dodge has you covered. The 2020 Challenger is built with a high-strength steel frame, including crumple zones specifically designed to absorb impact away from the passenger area. Inside, passengers can rest easy with extensive safety features, including active head restraints and advanced multistage driver and front passenger airbags, supplemental front and rear side-curtain airbags, and front seat-mounted side airbags (all standard, of course). Finally, Dodge offers smart passive safety features like automatic high-beams and rain-sensing wipers, which both adjust the intensity on their own.
Alternative Options
While the Challenger is Dodge's answer for those who need speed, if you're in need of power to climb mountains, we recommend the versatile and adaptable Dodge Durango. If you're in need of more seating for an entire crew of Dodge fans, however, then you can fit them all in the spacious and comfortable Dodge Grand Caravan.
